Appendix A9 of the HAUC ‘Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways’ (SROH) permits the use of ARMs (alternative reinstatements materials) for trench reinstatement. HBM provide such an alternative (refer to data sheet 6.8 on the UKQAA website). From 2009, the SROH Appendix A9 will include HBM by name as an ARM without the need for a 2-year site trial provided the HBM complies with the European Standard for HBM (BSEN 14227) and is produced, constructed and tested in accordance with the 800 series of the Specification for Highway Works (SHW).
